Broad-nosed Caiman usually reaches lengths of up to 6 ½ feet. Adults are pale olive green in color with a ridge running down their wide snout.
This highly aquatic species is found in freshwater, mangroves, marshes and swamps in northern Argentina, southeast Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
They eat snails, fish, and amphibians. A larger caiman is able to eat turtles with its powerful, rounded snout.
There are only 14 broad-nosed caiman in North American accredited Zoos. Five males are located at the Palm Beach Zoo.
